Coronation of Joann Julep Magnolia Blossom

A most unique and memorable  venue was chosen by our hostess Art Tart Rossy for the Coronation of our Queen Mother Joann Julep Magnolia Blossom.

Frivolities were held in the very best Red Hat Society fashion, as twenty five Scarlett O'Hatters traipsed through the woods, decorated by Art Tart Rossy. Little red bows  marked the path, red spider webs and burning fires led to a table laden with brekky foods. The brunch banquet tempted the staunchest dieter - even fresh oysters courtesy of Jester Jennie Holmes a'Hatter, who also made an amazing Coronation Cake to follow the ceremonies.

After our bountiful feast, Vice Queen Madam May Bloom Janine devised a memorable Coronation, with queen candidate (me, of course) led to my 'throne', a huge tree stump,  draped with velvety and shimmery fabrics via a pathway of feathery boas.  I clambered, definitely not gracefully, onto this throne, along with my Prince Consort, Hunter the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who was invited to sit, regally, of course, by my side wearing his new 'diamond'-studded collar and a fetching red tam o'shanter hat!   His comportment was exemplary, all and sundry declared he acted to the manor born!

Vice Queen Janine, conducted the ceremony with The Blue None- Phyllis reading the Red Hat Ten Commandments. Jeannie with the Light Grey Hair read the poem Bubbles Bubbles as the Scarlett O'Hatters blew bubbles into the air.  I made my Red Hat Pledge and I was then presented  with "the order of the red sash", a lovely sceptre and draped in an  'ermine'-bordered cape. Then finally the  beautiful crown!     It was very moving, to say the least!

My first act as official Queen was to conduct a Reduation for Kontessa Karen di Klepto, who turns the magical age of 50 on Wednesday.  She swore the Red Hat Pledge, and was presented with a Red hat to replace her pink one and a few tokens of purple partisanship, and joined the august ranks of women who refuse to stop having fun!

Kontessa Karen then passed out poppers to wish bon voyage to Baroness Strelitzia reginae Vivienne who leaves tomorrow for a couple of months to far-flung lands.

We then got stuck into the desserts - wonderful pavs made by Rossy, Jennie's Coronation Cake and a birthday cake for Tawdrey Audrey, Karen di Klepto and yours truly, who all celebrated birthdays between September 14 and 17.    So we certainly did not avoid any calories on this occasion, you can bet.

Rain threatened, so a human chain was organized to get the food and crockery, etc., up to the road, which worked brilliantly, and we all climbed in our cars just as the drops started to fall.  A thoroughly wonderful day for me - one that will be special in my Red Hat scrapbook of memories.  Thank you all for being a part of it.

RED HAT PRAYER

Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my shape to keep.

Please no wrinkles. Please no bags. And please lift my butt before it sags.

Please no age spots.  Please no gray. And as for my belly, please take it away.

Please keep me healthy. Please keep me young,

And thank you Dear Lord for all that you've done. Amen.
