3 February 2012

Hello Scarlett

Time is running out for you to renew your 2012 membership. Cost is $25.00. Thank you to all the Scarletts who have renewed their membership, I look forward to seeing you all sometime during the year.

Vice Queen Sandra has managed to book a 12 seat block booking in A Section (preminum seats - at a saving of $10 per ticket) for the following:
RIVERDANCE … the final tour - Sunday 13 May – 6pm – Cost $100 ticket

Derwent Entertainment Centre.  A thunderous celebration of Irish music, song and dance, Riverdance  brings their Farewell Tour to Australia  for a strictly limited season.
For those who have not yet experienced this joyous spectacle of Irish music and dance - and for diehard fans - this is your last chance to feel the thrill of Riverdance!  Of all the performances to emerge from Ireland – in rock, music, theatre and film – nothing has rivalled the energy, the sensuality and the spectacle of Riverdance.
With its fusion of Irish and International music and dance, the show received unanimous critical acclaim and broke all box office records
during its world premiere run in Dublin in early 1995.

If interested in going please contact Sandra ASAP.

COMING EVENTS FEBRUARY

Hello Scarletts

I thought I would start with a poem today (not one of mine!) – some of you may have heard it before:

Red Hat Poem

By Marjorie Ramsay 2008

My hat I wear with great aplomb
It makes me feel so bolder
For though I've passed the '50' mark
I don't feel any older
Than when I was a sweet young thing
Just barely out of my teens
And wearing out my platform shoes
And wide bell bottom jeans
But now I have a purple frock
It really is a shocker
All finished off with 'Big Red Hat'
With ostrich feather topper
I know the colours really clash
To me, it does not matter
I'm proud to say, I'm in the club
I'm a 50 plus 'Red Hatter!

Last Saturday was “Welcome in the New Year at The Royal Palace” where a few of us lunched and relaxed together, and purchased a few bargains from the trade table.  Thank you to the Scarletts who attended.

Hello Scarletts

It is not too late to renew your membership as a Scarlett O'Hatter.  Cost is $25

15 Scarletts met for lunch at the Sorell Fruit Farm last Friday and shared in some friendship and laughter. Our seating area had a view out over the strawberry fields and it was interesting to watch other diners out there picking strawberries after their meal. Quite a few Scarletts purchased some of the cherries and apricots available for sale, while I indulged in some relishes, chutneys and a bottle of Silvanberry Liquer (similar to Port but a milder version).

Welcome in the New Year – The Royal Palace – Sat 21 January – 12 noon
Come over to Scarlett Headquarters and meet fellow Scarletts for a relaxing few hours. We will welcome in the New Year (Red Hat style of course) with an impromptu lunch - please bring a plate (hot or cold) to share, and share in some friendship together. We will also have a trade table – so bring along those unwanted red hats/fascinators and purple outfits, shoes etc – who knows you may “bag a bargain”. Please put your name and price on any items you bring.  If you would like to donate any unwanted red hat/purple items we will be pleased to receive them.

Hello Scarletts

I’ve been searching on the internet for a Red Hat Society Christmas poem to send you for Christmas, but there just isn’t one. So I sat here and made one up, which I hope you will like (and get a laugh at).

WARNING (adapted for the 21st Century) (apologies to Jenny Joseph and Anne Parris)

When I am an old woman I shall wear a red thong
with purple ties at the sides, to keep the damn thing on.
And my hair will be long and professionally dyed
and I’ll drive my shiny red sports car with gusto and pride!

I’ll spend my money on frappuccinos and lacy red bras
And wear high-heeled boots, and travel afar.
I’ll meet others like me, young at heart and so fine
We’ll wear smart purple outfits, red hats and drink wine!

And when Christmas comes we’ll go out on the town
To celebrate with each other, the joys we have found
The friendships we’ve made and the fun we have had
And look back on a year that’s been hectic and mad!

The Red Hat Society has given me much
In a busy life that needed  - just an “extra touch”.

I would like to wish you all a Very Happy 2011 Christmas.

Look out for the next Scribbles which will have new upcoming events for January 2012 etc.

Reminder - that subs are due in by 1st January 2012 – cost for membership is $25.00

Until next time – Stay safe everyone!

Hello Scarletts

Well our 2011 Scarlett O’Hatters year has come to a close
. Thank you to all members for being part of the Scarlett O’Hatters and I hope you will continue to be part of the Red Hat “sisterhood” during 2012.

I have already put on my “thinking cap” for events we can enjoy in 2012 and look forward to meeting up with you all over the coming year. Don’t forget, I am always open to suggestions for places to go and up-coming events etc.

Wednesday was our Christmas Lunch at the Shipwright Arms Bistro in Battery Point. 20 of us enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch as well of lots of fun, friendship and riotous laughter. The highlight of the lunch would have to be our own Scarlett Janine and her “performing hat” (need I say more!) Well done Janine!  It was great to see Bruny Scarletts Pat and Janette too – thank you for making the trip to share the lunch with us.   It was lovely also to see Scarlett Rossy – our thoughts and prayers are constantly with you Rossy, as you travel down your road to recovery.

Reminder - that subs are due by 1st January 2012 – cost for membership is $25.00

The following was sent to me by a fellow Scarlett and think you can all appreciate
the humour:

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male
and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male
reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late
November to mid-December.   Female reindeer retain their antlers
till after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer,
EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should've known …….. ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man
in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost!

Until next time –  Have a good pre-Christmas week everyone!

Hello Scarletts
Well, our summer has begun and so has the “silly season”! We still have 6 places left if you would like to come for the Christmas lunch but thought it was too late to book in.

Last Friday was our final Friday night dinner for 2011. 10 Scarletts attended the Royal Thai restaurant in Elizabeth Street for dinner and we had a lovely time sharing fun, friendship and laughter together. The food and service were both excellent and it is certainly a restaurant we will re-visit in 2012!  Thank you to all those who attended.
